Scientists tailored a digicam on the Photo voltaic Orbiter probe to research seldom-seen areas of the Solar’s ambiance. By modifying the Photo voltaic Orbiter’s Excessive Ultraviolet Imager (EUI) with a clever hack, they managed to dam the overwhelming mild from the Solar, highlighting the delicate mild of its ambiance as a substitute.
The modification concerned including a “thumb” to a security door on the EUI. When the door is partially opened, this thumb acts as a protect, blocking the extreme daylight from the Solar’s central disc and permitting the weaker ultraviolet mild from the corona to be seen. This system has produced a novel ultraviolet picture of the Solar’s corona, a area sometimes overshadowed by the Solar’s brightness and primarily seen throughout whole photo voltaic eclipses.
