Valve warns that AMD’s anti-lag function can result in Counter-Strike 2 bans

Valve has warned Counter-Strike 2 gamers that AMD’s newest graphics driver may get them banned. The issue lies in AMD’s Anti-Lag+ function, which triggers the Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) system, duping it into mistaking the motive force’s low-latency mode for dishonest.

The issue lies in Anti-Lag+ intercepting and redirecting Dynamic Hyperlink Library (DLL) features. VAC views DLL reroutes as cheats (in different circumstances, they usually are), which may result in getting booted from Counter-Strike 2.

A Reddit thread concerning the problem claims “many gamers” have reported receiving VAC bans from utilizing the most recent AMD driver (23.10.1). “Evidently VAC is banning everybody BUT the cheaters,” quipped u/Volfong within the thread. “Can verify I obtained banned right now and Anti-Lag+ was turned on,” wrote u/trkemrasr. “They higher reverse this shit rapidly.”

Valve plans to do exactly that. “As soon as AMD ships an replace we will do the work of figuring out affected customers and reversing their ban,” the writer posted on X (previously Twitter).

Till the issue is resolved, Valve recommends turning off Anti-Lag+ within the graphics card settings. When you haven’t modified the default, you’ll be able to disable Anti-Lag+ with the hotkey of Alt+L. You’ll be able to double-check the shortcut’s setting by opening AMD Radeon Software program, clicking on the gear icon and selecting Hotkeys from the sub-menu. Choosing the prevailing hotkey for Anti-Lag+ lets you customise it.

Engadget has contacted AMD for remark and can replace this text if we hear again.

Counter-Strike 2 launched in September after months of hype. The replace, which changed Counter-Strike: International Offensive on Steam, provides upgraded graphics and maps alongside extra lifelike smoke. The sport makes use of Valve’s Source 2 engine for improved lighting, clearer textures and up to date geometry. You’ll want a considerably fashionable Home windows machine to play it as Valve says it has no plans to deliver the sequel to macOS or older PCs.
